Getting up at 9, sand in my toes at 9:30, application of "protective" tanning oil at 9:35, Corona Lite at 10:00 (AM), possibly (or not) heading up for lunch around 12:30 and then back out for Session II of My Life as a Beach Goddess. This was my beach itinerary in my former life. Now, it looks something like this:
First feeding at 7:15, Get MB dressed in swim diapers and bathing suit, lube her up in SPF 50+, try to get the sun hat to stay on, do we have everything we may need in the diaper bag?!, make it down to beach, put toes in water (she shrieks), Hollye realizes that swim diapers only hold in Number 2 and not Number 1 (now I need to wash off in the ocean), try to get baby to take nap on beach under umbrella, baby refuses, so Hollye heads back to condo by 9:30 AM. Rinse and repeat.
So we headed to Amelia with my parents a couple of weeks ago for our first real trip with the baby. We decided to drive during the night while Mary Burke slept (well, Jimmy drove.....I rode and slept for most of I-16) which did actually work like a charm. We had a great week full of good times with my parents and brother and seeing old friends. But the beach trip has definitely changed in meaning. Do we need to take this or that? Does she really need a sunhat when there is absolutely no sun out today? What time did she last eat? No, she cannot taste that right now...no, seriously, she can't. It was really a funny time. But we all survived, and we truly did have a great time. Haven't gotten around to developing pics yet....will post as soon as I do.
Update:
Mary Burke is now six months old and the rumors are true: she is crawling, she is pulling up on every thing in sight, and she has at least one tooth that has broken through. Needless to say, she is one tough cookie to catch. Jimmy has been working on her verb conjugations (in Latin), and she is coming along nicely on those also. Will keep you posted when she solves her first quadratic equation.
